New South Wales Premier, Dominic Perrottet, Minister for Tourism and Sport, Stuart Ayres, Andrew Constance and Fiona Kotvojs were in Bega yesterday where they presented the Chairman of Group 16 Rugby League on the South Coast, Allan Wilton, with a grant for the annual Indigenous All Stars game.
The announcement was meant to be made at 5pm on Tuesday at the Bega Rec Ground but was moved to a new location.
Mr Wilton told East Coast Radio the $5,000 grant will go a long way in helping the event.
“We very much appreciate it and it will go towards the staging and the cost of this event,” Mr Wilton said
“It gives Group 16 the opportunity to recognise the wonderful contribution that Indigenous players have made to Group 16 Rugby League for many years now,” he said.
2022 will be the eighth year of the Indigenous All Stars game and Mr Wilton said it’s great to be able to continue the tradition.
“It gives Indigenous players the opportunity to represent their community and we’ve had some wonderful players from our Indigenous community get involved,” Mr Wilton said.
The League posted a comment to its Facebook page stating “This is a great boost for the event which is such an important event for all our communities in the Group 16 calendar.”
The game will be played on the 11th of April 2022.
