Outgoing Bega MP Andrew Constance has hit back at Labor’s claims about the new Eurobodalla Hospital.
Following a visit to the region last week, State Labor leader Chris Minns said planning for the hospital was inadequate, and would result in the hospital opening as only a level three facility.
He also said planned services were being cut back.
However Mr Constance said the government, the community and the clinical services plan were all aimed at creating a hospital functioning as a level four health facility.
He said there was bipartisan support for making sure the new Eurobodalla Regional Hospital met all community needs.
“The $260 million now provides an eight-bed intensive care unit – that is the key to unlocking that level for status for the facility – the designs are amazing, the work that’s gone on in terms of the clinical service planning is fantastic, and it’s not a political thing,” Mr Constance said.
“The provision of that hospital is a completely bipartisan thing.”
He said the intensive care unit was the key to the new hospital achieving level for status.
“We have seen the announcement of an eight-bed intensive care unit for the hospital, we’ve seen expanded maternity, paediatric beds, mental health beds, an expanded emergency department, and making sure there’s improvements with things such as MRI imaging,” Mr Constance said.
He revealed the new facility will be known as the Eurobodalla Regional Hospital, linking in with other regional hospitals in Bega and Nowra to ensure there was a major hospital every 150km along the coast.
