COVID case numbers continue to rise

Local COVID case numbers continue to rise, with 12 new cases in the Bega Valley and seven in the Eurobodalla in the past 24 hours.

However the Southern NSW Local Health District is no longer providing a breakdown of the towns or suburbs for the new cases.

There were 159 new cases in the health district, which has 471 active cases and two COVID patients being treated in hospital.

They’re among 21,151 people across the state testing positive in the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of cases in NSW since the start of the pandemic to 187,315.

There are currently 832 COVID-19 cases admitted to NSW hospitals, with 69 people in intensive care, 19 of whom require ventilation.

There were also six COVID-related deaths reported during the 24 hours.

They included a woman in her 80s from western Sydney who had received two doses of a COVID-19 vaccine, an unvaccinated man in his 70s from south-western Sydney, a man in his 70s from the Newcastle who had received two vaccine doses, a woman in her 60s from western Sydney who had received one vaccine dose, a man in his 90s from Sydney’s north shore who had received two vaccine doses, and a man in his 70s from south-western who had also received two vaccine doses.
